OVERVIEW

The 401 (Techcore) Design studio unites the focused material fabrication model of the technology seminar with the design project of the traditional core studio through the close examination of tectonics and design conjectures developed from case study analysis focused on building envelopes. As the culmination of the first year studio progression from form (411) to plan (412) and now to section/elevation this studio is structured around a collaborative working model meant to introduce students to the realities of the professional working environment in which projects are pursued in groups toward a common goal. The studio explores building materials and assemblies integration and develops an understanding of the basic principles utilized in the appropriate selection of construction materials, products, components, and assemblies, based on their inherent characteristics and performance, including environmental impact and reuse
