UNREAL CITY with mid-air garden
401 Advanced Topics Studio Fall 2016

This project is not for real architectural training but for unreal architectural training. Simply saying, this is only a game of making tower-like shape or form which will be done by participants. We will not talk about function, comfortableness, economical reasonability, technical feasibility and limitation in various codes. A key word of this project is the illusions of “mid-air (hanging) garden”. Each participant will make a model according to this key word. As a result, you will get an assembly that might be called UNREAL CITY.

We can find “Unreal City” in T.S.Eliot’s famous poem “The Waste Land”(1922), by which the aesthetics of “collage” was established. He quoted these words from Charles Baudelaire’s famous poem “Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil)” (1857).
