Wang Shu lives in Hangzhou, China where he established the Amateur Architecture Studio with his wife Lu WenYu in 1997. He works and conducts research on the re-establishment of contemporary Chinese architecture, which is reflected in his projects including the Ceramic Houses, Vertical Courtyard Apartment, the Ningbo Contemporary Art Museum, Five scatter house, New Campus of China Academy of Art in HangZhou, Ningbo Historic Museum, and the Tengtou Pavilion for the Shanghai Expo. The application of vernacular, traditional, and recycled construction materials with modern technology is an important and unique feature of his designs. His projects have been published in numerous books and magazines and exhibited in museums, art and architecture centers, and educational institutes throughout the world. In 2009, his solo-exhibition “Architecture as a Resistance” was on view at the Bozar Art Center in Brussels. He serves as the School of Architecture Head in the China Academy of Art, one of the best art schools in China. Shu has given lectures at universities, colleges and other institutes around the world along with participating in academic conferences. He was awarded the Schelling Architecture Prize in 2010 and L'Académie d'Architecture de France (The gold Prize of “Academy of Architecture”，France) in 2011.
