Design of Self Symposium
February 23, 2013 from 9 am – 7 pm
UCLA Royce 314

The idea of “the self” has been central to recent invocations of an authentic embodied experience. This symposium focuses on new methodological approaches to exploring the category of “the self" in architectural history and its relevance to the question: “What is the modern mode of being subjects?” Invited speakers will introduce a critical distance from naturalizing claims to embodied experience by addressing the cultural formation of concepts like habit, the senses, and environment.
