Anna Puigjaner, Co-Founder, MAIO Studio and Associate Professor of Professional Practice, Columbia GSAPP
Anna Puigjaner, Ph.D., is an architect, researcher and editor. She is the co-founder of MAIO Studio, an architectural office that works on flexible systems where notions such as variation, ephemeral or ad hoc, permit theoretical positions materialize.
Anna currently teaches at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University. Prior to this, she taught at the Royal College of Arts in London, and the Barcelona School of Architecture ETSAB/ETSAV - UPC. For the last six years she has also managed the magazine Quaderns d’Arquitectura I Urbanisme.
MAIO’s work has been published in Monocle, Domus, Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, A+U, Architectural Review and Detail, among others, and exhibited at the MOMA of New York, the Royal Academy of London, the Art Institute of Chicago and Storefront for Art and Architecture. MAIO participated at Venice Biennial 2016 in the Spanish Pavillion, was awarded the Golden Lion, at the Chicago Architecture Biennial (2015 and 2017 editions) and co-curated a Weekend Special at the Biennale di Venezia in 2014. The studio's work has received a number of awards including the 2016 FAD Opinion Award for Architecture,the 2016 FAD Award for Ephemeral Interventions, the 2015 FAD Award for Thought and Criticism, the 2013 FAD Opinion Award for Interior Design and the 2014 Arquia/Proxima Award.
Anna was selected as a finalist in the 2016 Rolex Mentor & Protégé Initiative, and her research ‘Kitchenless City’ was awarded with the 2016 Wheelwright Prize from Harvard GSD.
