Distinguished Alumni Lecture

As a Design Principal at Safdie Architects, Jaron Lubin is central to many of the firm’s recent speculative proposals and realized projects.  Safdie Architects creates meaningful and vital public spaces that serve as catalysts for a vibrant public life in cities around the world.  Their buildings are rooted in geographical and cultural vitality of their context. His recent work includes proposals for the National Art Museum of China Beijing, a new Chinese opera house in Hong Kong, and Terminal 5 Changi Airport.  He was part of the competition-winning team for the Marina Bay Sands Singapore and is currently involved with many of the firm’s Singapore projects including the residential tower Sky Habitat and Jewel, a mixed-use complex at Changi Airport. He is a frequent writer and lecturer traveling internationally to share the work of the firm.

The UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design Distinguished Alumni Lecture series features renowned graduates whose innovation and accomplishments have significantly impacted the field of architecture and/or urban design.

This, Not That invites thought-provoking speakers to present arguments for their respective positions, or ideological stances, toward the design of the built environment. Their arguments will be supported by presentations of their creative efforts in research, pedagogy or professional practice.  This series stages an ongoing debate around the shifting perspectives that frame creative practice.
