ARUP: Can you imagine…?

Erin McConahey, Principal and Chris Luebkeman, Director for Global Foresight and Innovation

IDEAS Lectures

Arup is the creative force at the heart of many of the world’s most prominent projects in the built environment. As a valued partner in the design process, Arup strives to discover new ways to turn ideas into tangible reality.  Beyond the details of engineering, or the logistics of planning, Arup people are driven to challenge the preconceived notions of what is normal and envisage the “new normal” future we work to create.  During this lecture, Erin and Chris will share some insights about how Arup continues to shape a better world drawing from both current work and aspirational research.

Erin McConahey, Principal
Erin’s passion for finding integrated design solutions through a collaborative design process began with degrees in both mechanical and structural engineering. Her extensive technical knowledge of innovative and energy saving solutions is coupled with her commitment to sustainable designs that address the whole life cycle of buildings. In addition to her project responsibilities as a design leader, Erin has crafted tools and training to drive interdisciplinary coordination within Arup.

Chris Luebkeman, Director for Global Foresight and Innovation
Educated as a geologist, structural engineer and architect, Chris now specializes as a generalist with a view of being “in league with the future.” Chris leads the Foresight, Research + Innovation team at Arup and makes it his personal mission to ensure the firm is positioned to thrive under the shifting contexts of the future.

The IDEAS Lecture Series charts a dynamic new future for architecture by engaging speakers from a broad range of disciplines. The series looks beyond the field's traditional boundaries and explores topics arising from unexpected quarters—entertainment, automotive, aerospace, and tech industries—in order to explore rapidly emerging new technologies, possibilities for interdisciplinary growth, and the role of Los Angeles in the evolution of architecture. The Architecture and Urban Design IDEAS Lecture Series is generously supported by Paul and Herta Amir.

Lectures are free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis.
No reservations are required.
