PROFILE

As founder and principal of Montalba Architects, Inc., David Montalba is acting design principal on each project. Believing that architecture can improve quality of life, his practice favors a humanistic approach, which often leads to solutions that are contextual, yet conceptual and visionary in their intent, affect, and appeal. He has served as treasurer and board member of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects, as well as a board member of the A+D Museum in Los Angeles. In 2008, Montalba was the recipient of a prestigious AIA Young Architects Award and was selected as the AIACC’s John S. Bolles Fellow. Most recently Montalba Architects was honored by the AIA with an Institute Honor in Interior Architecture (2011) for WS Park Dental; other awards include an AIACC Merit Award for Interior Architecture (2011), a Green Good Design Award (2011), Custom Home Design Awards (2011), an AIA Pasadena Honor Award (2010), and AIA|LA Restaurant Design Awards (2009 & 2007). His work has been featured in Architectural Record, ARCHITECT, Green Building & Design, FORM, and Harper’s Bazaar, amongst many others.

Current projects include new houses in Los Angeles and Jackson Hole, a restaurant and bakery in Santa Monica, a ski lodge in Mammoth Lakes, and a pop-up shop in San Francisco.
